Great thing about staying in a Ryokan hotel, is the full Japanese breakfast that comes with it. Some places serve this in the room, but this place had a Japanese restaurant where they served it. Each day you tell them in advance what time you want your breakfast. And if you're late by more than ten minutes, they call your room to politely inform you that breakfast is ready. So much for a leisurely sleep in...
Breakfast everyday included:
1. 6 Dish Bento. Every single item was different every morning, its impressive how many pretty little things they can come up with. Not every item was to my taste, but the variety was amazing. Usually there was at least fish, egg, something sticky like nato (to eat with rice) and a vegetable. Other occasional items included konyaku jelly, beancurd skin, naruto (fish cake), salad.
2. Hot Tofu in Soup. Varied slightly every day, on the third day, it even included a piece of pork!
3. Rice, Miso Soup, Pickles, Seaweed, Yoghurt Drink & Hot Tea. Yummy.
